About this painting
I painted this piece to capture a moment of pure freedom I discovered while walking in the countryside. The scene that stopped me was breathtaking: a vast field of brilliant, luminous rapeseed yellow, marked by the subtle, almost hidden paths of travellers cutting across the ground.
On the distant horizon, majestic and iconic, stood the Angel of the North. I named the painting "Shortcut Across the Fields" because I could instantly imagine being young again, full of daring and energy, running through that beautiful yellow meadow straight toward the Angel in the distance.
This original oil painting, created in my studio, is my emotional response to that vista. It’s a celebration of Northern pride, the vibrant energy of the land, and the spirit of youthful exploration. It invites you to step into that memory—that moment of beautiful, unburdened freedom.
