    I painted this study of Blencathra on location at Troutbeck campsite, with the fell rising gently beyond the fields. The morning light shifted across its slopes, soft and changeable, while in the foreground a sweep of bright yellow marked the buttercups glowing in the sun. I wanted to capture that quiet balance of colour and stillness — the calm weight of the mountain and the fleeting light of a summer morning.
